Abstract

The research about the antipiretic effect of alang-alang (Imperata cy;indrica (L.) Beauv.) trunk has been done. This research aimed to know the antipyretic effect of alang-alang trunk infusa and compared between alang-alang trunk infusa with paracetamol. Thirty five male rats (Rattus norvegicus) weighing 180-250 grams were used as test animals. They were devided into five groups. Group I was only treated with aquadest (negative control), group II was treated with paracetamol, group III, IV, and V were treated with alang-alang trunk infusa 5%, 10%, and 20%. Digital thermometer was used to measure rats themperature. Before the experiment, the first themperature of each rat was measured. DPT (DIfteri Pertusis and Tetanus} vaccine 0,1 ml/100 grams body weight by intramuscular injection was given to induce fever. Thirty minutes later, the rats were treated by alangalang trunk infusa. The measurement of rat’s themperature was statistically analyzed with one wayANOVA, continued with LSD (Least Significant Difference). The result showed that alang-alang trunk infusa had antiperetic effect, but the antipyretic effect of alang-alang trunk infusa in various doses were not as effective as paracetamol
