The effect of parathyroid hormone concentration on orthodontic tooth movements

Abstract

Background: Orthodontics treatment with fixed or removable orthodontics appliances is biologic process that combines mechanical forces with tooth movements process, orthodontics appliances continues mechanical forces to periodontium tissue in order that tooth can be moving. Purpose: to understand that bone remodelling proccess during tooth movements involves resorption and alveolar bone  formation. Bone remodelling is affected with calcium concentration within blood circulation which is controlled by parathyroid hormone. Review: This paper have a purpose to find out the different parathyroid concentration hormone can affects orthodontics tooth movements during orthodontics treatments. Conclusion: The different concentration of  parathyroid hormone can affects orthodontics tooth movements during orthodontics treatments, which is parathyroid hormone regulates calcium concentration within the blood circulation in order to keep stable with the method of calcium resorption from bones. Bone remodelling process during orthodontics treatments can disturbs when calcium level in a place under normal limits (hipocalcemia) because the process of bone resorption more larger than bone formation until orthodontics tooth movements process is blocked.

Abstrak

Latar belakang: Perawatan ortodonti dengan aplikasi peranti ortodonti lepasan maupun cekat merupakan proses biologis antara kekuatan mekanis dengan proses bergeraknya gigi, dimana peranti ortodonti meneruskan kekuatan mekanis ke jaringan periodonsium agar gigi dapat digerakkan. Proses remodelling tulang selama pergerakan gigi melibatkan resorbsi dan aposisi tulang alveolar. Remodelling tulang dipengaruhi oleh kadar kalsium dalam darah yang dikontrol oleh hormon paratiroid. Tujuan: Pembuatan makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah perbedaan konsentrasi hormon paratiroid dapat mempengaruhi pergerakan gigi selama perawatan ortodonti. Kesimpulan: Perbedaan konsentrasi hormon paratiroid dapat mempengaruhi pergerakan gigi selama perawatan ortodonti, dimana hormon paratiroid mengatur kadar kalsium dalam darah agar tetap stabil dengan cara meresorbsi kalsium dari tulang. Proses remodelling tulang yang berlangsung selama perawatan ortodonti dapat terganggu apabila kadar kalsium berada di bawah batas normal (hipokalsemia) karena proses resorbsi tulang lebih besar daripada aposisi tulang sehingga proses pergerakan gigi  secara ortodonti juga akan terhambat.
